The Application Process

What stipulations are there for study financing?

The following are the basic requirements to qualify for study financing :

- Dutch nationality

- Completed high school

- Admissible to chosen major

- Proof of admittance to college / university

 

How do I apply for study financing?

Every applicant is required to fill in a study financing application form.  (Link to application form).

 

Required Documents

The following documents must be submitted along with your application form.

· 2 recent passport pictures

· An Original Birth Certificate. (If the applicant was born outside of the   Netherlands Antilles, the original birth certificate must have the apostille stamp).

· Proof of Dutch Nationality (A document from the Census Office)

· A copy of Passport page with relevant information

· Proof of registration at the Census office.

· A valid health certificate

· 1 copy of filed tax forms supporting parental income from the previous year.

· Recent grades/report card.

· Proof of admittance to institution (This document is required before any funds will be disbursed).

 

Who can receive study financing?

A. Study financing is awarded in first instance only to those persons born on St. Maarten of Dutch nationality
B.
 Other Dutch citizens registered at the civil registry on the island for at least 5 years prior to submitting an application for study financing
C.
 Persons who have reached the age of 18 but not being older than 26 years
D.
 Persons who have completed the secondary education level

An exception to point B is made for applicants born in the Netherlands Antilles and one of their parents was born on St. Maarten

 

Additional guidelines

GED scores of at least 480 as supplement to secondary school diploma or in cases whereby applicants older than 21 years were unable to complete a high school at an earlier age

Applicants already in College must have a GPA of at least 2.5

Applicants for Master’s studies must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Legal studies may only be done in Holland or at UNA

American or International Law will only be considered as a specialization after the first Law degree.

 

After Approval

What costs are covered?

Travel expenses to place of study

Tuition and living expenses

A financial contribution of F.1000,00 towards the purchase of a vacation ticket during studies with a duration of more than 2 years (if the student is in good academic standing).

A loan of maximum US$ 800,00 towards a personal computer

Supervision costs

 

What amounts are awarded per country?

University of St.Martin : Nafls 13.500,-- Max

Aruba : Nafls 9.900,-- Max

Curacao : Nafls 9.900,-- Max

Holland : Euro 10.310 Max (for studies not covered by WSF)

USA/Canada/England : U.S.$ 15.000,-- Max

Trinidad/Jamaica : U.S.$ 5.500,-- Max

St.Thomas/Puerto Rico : U.S.$ 14.000,-- Max

Belgium : Euro 10.310,00,-- Max

 

How is study financing awarded?

All study financing requests are put before a study financing committee. This Committee reviews all cases based on :

student's educational background

chosen major

all other stipulations mentioned in the study financing ordinance.

 

The advice is then submitted to the Executive Council who takes the final decision to grant or deny the study financing by June 30.  

 

-     Requirements for maintaining the awarded study financing.

Grades: Students are required to submit their official grades before July 15thof each year.

Parental Tax Forms for the previous year

Submission of Student contact registration form

Student must keep Government abreast of all changes through regular contact with the Section study financing

Class Schedule. All students are required to submit their class schedule within one month after the commencement of classes.
